It's the raknar's turn in the spotlight this week. https://trialsofascension.com/news/article/design-discussion-raknar
Hah... I can already see the PvPers raging over they cant solo an Adult dragon.. Hey its true when DONT you see a PvPer rage about 1v1 and he cant Beat it? Wont stop him thats for dang sure, but they will learn and wont Relie on the Moaning of Yatta yatta i got out played by someone else... Welp.. Thats besides the point.. Just becareful about this race.. i can Already see problems when they go PvP and cant kill it.. Just letting you know Dont let them get TOO powerful..
This is pretty neat! Poor Raknar though! Dragons have two easy ways of disposing of them. Light them on fire with a burst of flame, or drop them into the nearest lake. It definitely seems like Humans are a Dragon's real threat, not Raknar. Of course, that's how it should be really. Raknar prey on Humans, so they are perfectly designed to kill Humans. Dragons are ancient beasts from a long-forgotten time before Humans that some event triggered their re-awakening.
The design change seems reasonable to me, though a little more powerful as it seems to me they can grow more quickly for dedicated players and keep more life counters. That is fine though, they will still die.
I hadn't even thought of the issue with Raknar not being able to advance on 1 life counter servers. Glad somebody spotted it. Is there ever a cap, then, on Raknar progression now? Other than permadeath, of course?
There is something of a soft-cap for both humans and raknar, in so far that the gain requirements become so steep that most people will not bother. But we aren't putting a hard cap on either species. Dragons get the hard cap of ancient, but at that point they've reached the pinnacle of player advancement.
From the news: ..." inspired you all to take a closer look at our monstrous bug." I haven't seen Raknars in a game demo or the game code so I have not seen any monstrous bugs =p
How does the respawning at webs work? Like if you die lose all your stats and become a spiderling again? Same with the humans and dragons, I thought you lose everything when you die.
You loose a life counter and whatever you are carrying. If you have more life-counters left then you respawn, otherwise you die permanently. There is a mechanic proposed that will allow you to bind certain items magically so you don't loose them when you die. There is also a mechanic that allows you to use limited number of items that give more life counters, they were sold to raise money for the project in the past.
When a raknar dies, it's evolutions revert to the last threshold that it reached before death. The raknar don't have an inventory to lose. It is only when your character perma-dies that it cannot be played and the player has to remake the character all over again.
Coming from a pvp focused guild that has played together for years from 1 game to another, I have shared my feelings about pvp focused guilds/kins who will choose racknar. The fact that racknar will grow faster with humans will only make matters worse with griefing/ganking. There will be quite a few islands that will be near impossible for any humans because of the learning curve and the teamwork it will take to become even remotely viable. You have been warned playing a human/dragon early on is going to be extremely brutal and you will need to be ready for a good deal of frustration.
Raknar will have to get strong to get to the surface so they can get access to Humans and Dragons. What will happen to their spiders that they are raising after they die?
